Static Models = Missed Opportunities

Technological advances and social changes are shaping how people learn, so the way we teach can’t be static—it must adapt to how students behave, comprehend, and what they value. Educators will miss any opportunity to facilitate learning if students won’t engage. It’s a motivation problem, so educators must prioritize motivation before they can focus on learning.
People read, watch, listen, experience, and learn differently than they did in the year 1920, 2020, or even just six months ago. Attention spans are shorter. Pacing in literature, film, and video is faster. Students can use AI as personal tutors but also as shortcuts for completing assignments and avoiding learning altogether.
So why do we teach the same way we’ve always taught?
Advances in Teaching and Learning
Learning Lab shares emerging teaching initiatives and resources as they happen. From grading formats that prioritize competency to teaching in the AI era, this site doesn’t discard effective teaching; it seeks to apply these methods in relevant ways as technologies and people change. Let’s evolve feedback and mentorship to match the needs of today’s learners. To do this, educators must evolve first.
